NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Defensemen Pickups Dec. 29 - Fowler Excelling in St. Louis
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.
Cam Fowler, STL vs. BUF (12% rostered)
Fowler has stepped up his game in St. Louis since coming over from Anaheim. The 33-year-old has already earned more points with the Blues -- five over seven contests -- than the four assists he logged across 17 games with the Ducks to start the season, St. Louis has been looking for a scoring blueliner with Torey Krug missing the season and Fowler has more than filled the bill.
Radko Gudas, ANA vs. EDM (26% rostered)
You don't expect Gudas to contribute much offensively. His assist Saturday gave Gudas helpers in back-to-back contests and four in his last five games. Gudas only has seven apples on the year, so his production recently makes up most of his season total. His value is in the physical stats and Gudas has blocked 76 shots while dishing out 108 hits while also skating 18:30 a contest.
Simon Edvinsson, DET vs, WSH (4% rostered)
Edvinsson capped his return after missing three games with an injury with an empty-net tally Friday. He has settled in nicely as the second blue line option behind Moritz Seider in Detroit, notching four tallies and 10 assists in 31 contests. Edvinsson is seeing 20:44 of ice time nightly, a 2:29 rise over the prior season. He has dished out 30 hits while blocking 53 shots, showing that he contributes across the board.
Darren Raddysh, TB vs. MON (1% rostered)
Raddysh has four assists his last seven games as he helps Tampa make up for the absence of J.J. Moser, who is out 8-10 weeks due to a lower-body injury. He benefits from skating opposite Victor Hedman with his ice time picking up accordingly. Don't overrate Raddysh, but he makes a decent deep flier in DFS.
Jonas Brodin, MIN vs. OTT (3% rostered)
Brodin's goal Friday was his first since Nov. 19 and he has three points over seven contests since he returned from an upper-body injury. Brock Faber is the clear top blueliner for Minnesota but Brodin gives the Wild another secondary option to go with Jared Spurgeon. Brodin is up to three goals, 11 points, 46 shots on net, 56 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating through 26 outings this season while skating on the second pair.
