NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Forwards Pickups Jan. 30 - Terry, McTavish Helps Ducks Offense Soar
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.
Dmitri Voronkov, LW, CBJ at VGK (47% rostered)
Adam Fantilli, C, CBJ at VGK (25% rostered)
Kent Johnson, C/LW/RW, CBJ at VGK (15% rostered)
The Blue Jackets' top line with Fantilli, Voronkov and Kirill Marchenko has been a little quiet but this is a good matchup with Vegas struggling, especially in net. This has the makings of a high-scoring game because neither team has good goaltending right now. To cover your bases, you might want to consider multiple Jackets, but the best play is still Fantilli. Johnson's on a four-game points streak but offers little else other than scoring.
Pierre-Luc Dubois, C/LW, WSH at OTT (44% rostered)
Aliaksei Protas, C/LW, WSH at OTT (36% rostered)
It's a bit of a risky play because it's either shut out the Sens or get shut out by the Sens. Dubois, however, is on a tear with four goals and six points in his past five games. The Capitals are grinding out wins, so this might be a low-scoring affair. That's the only real risk for an otherwise solid multi-category contributor.
Protas is also on fire with a five-game points streak with three goals and three assists. He's formed a productive duo on the second line with Dubois. This could be a nice stack if you have room.
Pavel Dorofeyev, LW/RW, VGK vs. CBJ (43% rostered)
Ivan Barbashev, C/LW, VGK vs. CBJ (42% rostered)
Put enough shots on expected starter Elvis Merzlikins and you're bound to get a few goals. Dorofeyev's minutes can be limited sometimes because he's not particularly strong in other areas of the game that don't involve scoring - but that's okay, because this is fantasy hockey. Dorofeyev's coming off a two-point performance against the Stars and the Jackets are still allowing the seventh-most goals per game.
Barbashev has a lower offensive ceiling but plays more minutes on L1 with Jack Eichel. He's got three assists in his past four games but his production really depends on how well Eichel and Mark Stone play. Barbashev doesn't generate much offense on its own, so he's a more unpredictable option.
Troy Terry, C/RW, ANA at CGY (27% rostered)
Mason McTavish, C, ANA at CGY (14% rostered)
The Ducks offense is quacking loudly. They've scored 16 goals in their past three games, and with a goal against the Kraken, Terry also extended his points streak to four games. McTavish is also on a hot streak with six goals in his past four games. This scoring binge won't last - he shoots far too infrequently and doesn't always play a lot of minutes - so take advantage of it now. The Flames have not bee sharp defensively lately with 12 goals allowed in their past three games.
Jaden Schwartz, C/LW, SEA vs. SJ (16% rostered)
Take advantage of a potentially high-scoring game and the Sharks' inconsistent goaltending. Yaroslav Askarov is expected to start, which will be tougher than facing Alexandar Georgiev, but Schwartz has really become a solid multi-category contributor with a high volume of shoots, and some hits and blocks. He scored a goal last game and he's playing L1 with Matty Beniers and averaging over 20 minutes in his past two games.
