NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Forward Pickups January 22 - Geeked For Geekie
On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games
Morgan Geekie, C/LW/RW, BOS @ NJ (7% rostered)
Geekie's production has steadily risen from 9 in 36 games as rookie for the Kraken in 2020-21. He upped that output to 22 in 73 games the following season, followed by 28 his final season in 2022-23. Geekie signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the B's that offseason and has certainly outpaced that deal, first by notching 17 goals, 39 points, 137 hits and 50 blocks in 76 regular-season contests in 2023-24. He is on pace to exceed that total and collect a big payday, as he has notched nine goals and 16 points over the last 20 games, along with 43 shots on net, 35 hits and a plus-5 rating while skating on the team's first line.
Dmitri Voronkov, LW, CLM @ TOR (52% rostered)
Voronkov just exceed our 50% roster threshold for inclusion in this column, so I am taking some liberties by profiling him. Based on his production to date, seeing Voronkov have a three-game scoreless was a extremely surprising. He broke that streak by tallying an assist Monday while in his usual first line, left wing spot. Overall, the forward has 17 goals, 14 assists, nine power-play points, 83 shots on net and a plus-14 rating across 38 appearances.
Jonathan Drouin, LW/RW, COL vs. WPG (28% rostered)
Drouin failed to dent the scoresheet Monday but he has been brilliant since returning from injury. He has 10 helpers, 14 points and 25 shots in 15 appearances this season while skating alongside Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. Drouin and Nathan Mac are former QMJHL Halifax teammates with the chemistry between the pair extremely palpable, which has been replicated since Drouin joined the Avalanche.
Jesper Boqvist, C, FLA @ LA (1% rostered)
Boquist signed a one-year deal with Florida this offseason and he has been a perfect fit with the Panthers. Skating on the team's bottom six, Boqvist is on a roll recently offensively. He has six goals, two assists and 17 shots in his last 10 games after putting up 11 points in his first 34 outings. Add in 102 hits in 44 games and Boqvist is contributing across the board.
