NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Forwards Pickups Jan. 7 - Kane In Vintage Form, Encore For Rossi

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Patrick Kane, RW, DET vs. OTT (49% rostered)

This is a good matchup for the Red Wings, who have won four in a row, facing the Sens, who are expected to start backup Anton Forsberg. Kane has been in vintage form lately with seven points in his past four games, feasting on a power play that's converted 50 percent of their chances (8-for-16) under Todd McLellan.

Matthew Knies, LW, TOR at PHI (46% rostered)

What will Knies do for an encore? He's been excellent since Auston Matthews returned to the lineup, scoring five points against the Bruins and then scored another goal against the Flyers. Knies is fantastic in multi-category leagues with his offensive upside and also contributions to both shots and hits.

Dylan Holloway, C/LW, STL at MIN (46% rostered)
Brayden Schenn, C/LW, STL at MIN (22% rostered)

Holloway carries a three-game points streak into Minnesota and he's formed quite the duo with Schenn. Holloway scores in bunches, and it's a good time to take advantage; he's scored four goals and 10 points in his past six games. Schenn is on a two-game points streak with three goals and five points in his past four games.

Bryan Rust, RW, PIT vs. CLB (46% rostered)
Michael Bunting, LW, PIT vs. CLB (16% rostered)

Rust's torrid scoring pace has slowed down a little bit but I expect this game to be a high-scoring affair. The Penguins and Blue Jackets rank first and second, respectively, in most goals allowed per game. This is a potential bounce-back game for Rust, who has held to zero points and a minus-3 rating in their previous meeting.

Bunting is a reasonable Plan B option with five goals in his past six games, but his ceiling is generally lower with L2 deployment and less consistency. Both Rust and Bunting play PP1 with Sidney Crosby.

Troy Terry, C/RW, ANA vs. CGY (38% rostered)
Ryan Strome, C/LW, ANA vs. CGY (10% rostered)

At this rate, Terry will have plenty of ROS value. He has a chance to set career highs across the board, and a lot of that is due to his hot streak; he's scored five goals and eight points in his past six games. His shot volume has really increased, which is usually a good hint that his production will continue.

Terry's strong play has also benefitted Strome, who has a five-game points streak and both L1 and PP1 deployment. Terry and Strome could be a fun stack if managers think the Ducks can take advantage of the Flames' recent slide.

Marco Rossi

Marco Rossi, C, MIN vs. STL (37% rostered)

Rossi's coming off a four-assist performance against the Canes and he's the Wild's best center in fantasy, supplanting Joel Eriksson Ek due to his higher offensive upside. Rossi can have some quiet nights, but there are also nights where he's a major factor, and the Wild will need him to be that player without Kirill Kaprizov. As I've said all season, Rossi should be rostered in all standard leagues.

Dmitri Voronkov, LW, CLB at PIT (34% rostered)

Voronkov has the hot hand with seven goals in his past six games, and he's holding down the left wing spot on the top line. This should be a high-scoring matchup, which bodes well for Voronkov and the Jackets' top-10 offense.

Victor Olofsson, LW/RW, VEG at SJ (9% rostered)

Olofsson can be a high-reward play, but there's always the risk that he posts zeroes across the board. Such is the life of a streaky scorer. After missing the game against his former team (Sabres), Olofsson is expected to return to the lineup and play with Jack Eichel on the top line. The other risk - asides from Olofsson's own streaky play - is the Sharks might start Yaroslav Askarov, who has been a brick wall lately and difficult to score on.
