NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Forward Pickups January 20 - Jonathan Drouin Red Hot for Colorado

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Tyler Toffoli, LW/RW, SJ @ BOS (36% rostered)

Watch the injury news as Toffoli was scratched Saturday with a lower-body injury, Prior to missing this contest, Toffoli was heating up, posting two goals and four points over his past two outings. Toffoli has provided the Sharks a solid option at wing, notching 17 goals while adding 13 assists in 47 contests. His scoring is down a little from last season, though he still has a shot at hitting the 50-point plateau.

Jonathan Drouin, LW/RW, COL vs. MIN (34% rostered)

Drouin potted a goal and added a pair of assists Saturday for the Avalanche. He's picked up a pair of goals and eight assists over nine appearances since he returned after missing five weeks with an upper-body injury. He posted a career-high 56 points - 19 markers and 37 helpers - last season in his first year in Colorado. That production earned him a one-year deal to stay with the Avs and he is doing his best to warrant another contract.

JJ Peterka, BUF @ SEA (34% rostered)

Peterka is scoreless in his last two contests but still has 14 points, including 12 assists, and 31 shots in his last 15 games. He had a breakout season in his second year in the league in 2023-24, potting 28 goals while adding 22 assists. Skating on Buffalo's second line, Peterka, a second-round pick, 34 overall in 2020, has already matched his prior season total in assists while adding 10 markers, putting him on early pace to exceed his 2023-24 point total.

Pavel Dorofeyev, LW/RW, LV vs. STL (34% rostered)

Dorofeyev, profiled Friday, gets another mention as he continued his recent hot streak by notching an assist in Vegas' 3-2 loss to the Hurricanes. He has earned seven points, including four on the power play, over his last three games. Dorofeyev has found a comfort level skating with Tomas Hertl and Victor Olofsson with each point posted setting a new career-high with his 19 goals scored six north of what he notched last season, his first full campaign in the NHL.

James van Riemsdyk, CLM @ NYI (0 % rostered)

JvR was signed by the Blue Jackets to provide a veteran presence in the locker room to help the team following the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau. He posted 38 points last season in Boston but has only eight goals and 17 points in 39 appearances on the season. The good news is that half of his production (four goals, four assists) have come in the last eight games while skating on Columbus' second line.

Teuvo Teravainen, LW/RW, CHI vs. CAR (18% rostered)

Turbo, after seeing his four-game point streak snapped Thursday, got back on the beam with an assist Saturday. Over his last 15 contests, the streaky winger has erupted for four goals and 18 points with a plus-6 rating. Teravainen is skating on Chicago's second line as well as their first power play unit and is up 32 points in 46 contests in his second go-around in the Windy City.

Matias Maccelli, LW/RW, UTAH vs. WPG (2% rostered)

Maccelli is having an odd season. He only has seven goals in 43 games, scoring in just four contests this season, but three of those have been two-goal efforts. Maccelli posted 47 and 57 points the last two seasons, so he clearly is having a rough campaign. But with points in two straight contests, maybe he is finding his way again as he skates on Utah's second line.
