Goalies
Justus Annunen, COL vs. CAR (40% rostered)
Alexandar Georgiev, COL vs. CAR (70% rostered)
As of publishing, Jared Bednar has not named his starter and it'll be interesting to see who they go with. On one hand, Annunen has been the better goalie this season, as if he secure the starting job, he will have immense fantasy value going forward.
On the other hand, Georgiev was excellent in a 1-0 loss to the Jets, the only blemish coming off a 2-on-1 play where he had little chance. Bednar has leaned on Georgiev in the past, even when he's struggled, so could a strong performance lead Bednar to think Georgiev's turned a corner?
This is a tough matchup, but don't expect the Avs to get shut out for the second straight game. I don't mind rolling the dice with either Annunen or Georgiev, knowing that both have the ability to turn in a fine performance. The Avs are 4-2-0 against the Canes in their past six games since 2020.
Jonathan Quick, NYR at DET (9% rostered)
Quick is slated to start even after making a relief appearance in their previous game in a 6-1 loss to the Sabres and this looks like a good matchup on paper. The Rangers were uncharacteristically bad, which means they should bounce back, while the Wings are playing the second half of a back-to-back with travel - even with the relatively short distance, it was cross-border - and have had a habit of losing consecutive games. Quick has been so good this season as a backup - as he was last season - that it'd be surprising if he has a poor start.
Calvin Pickard, EDM at VAN (9% rostered)
Since Oct. 25, the Oilers have alternated between Pickard and Stuart Skinner, and based on that rotation, it's Pickard's turn to start. However, the Oilers need Skinner to be their No. 1 again at some point, and he's been much better in November with a .923 SP through two games. Either the Oilers continue their rotation, increasing Pickard's fantasy value going forward, or they go with Skinner, who hopefully can become fantasy-relevant again.
The Canucks are generally very good at home and they've been finding ways to win even though they're not playing their best. However, Brock Boeser left their previous game with an upper-body injury and did not return, and his status is questionable. Without him, the Canucks are missing arguably their most dangerous shooter. I don't expect Pickard and/or Skinner to put up sparkling stats, but the Oilers certainly have a chance to win.
Dan Vladar, CGY at BUF (11% rostered)
It looks like it's win-and-you're-in for the Flames, which means Dustin Wolf will likely sit after losing in his second straight start. Vladar has been quite good this season but be mindful he's running into a red-hot offense that has scored 11 goals in two games.
The Sabres lineup is 100 percent healthy with Zach Benson back, and it's an offense that can pack quite a punch. The Flames are playing their final game of a three-game road trip so fatigue may be a factor; Vladar is not an advisable start unless you want saves.
Ivan Fedotov, PHI at FLA (5% rostered)
Both Samuel Ersson and Aleksei Kolosov are day-to-day, so assume Fedotov will get his second straight start after an impressive 22-save, 2-1 win against the Lightning on Thursday. It was the first time Fedotov looked so good and comfortable in an NHL game, but I'm still not quite convinced and he faces an even stiffer test in the Panthers. It might be tempting to take a chance on Fedotov, but I'd advise against it. If, however, Fedotov turns in another strong performance, we can discuss if he's on a potential heater and worth streaming next week against the Sharks.
Ville Husso, DET vs. NYR (2% rostered)
Husso was so bad in the season opener allowing four goals on 14 shots that the Wings promptly decided to go with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon instead and demoted Husso to the minors. Lyon is injured, which necessitated the call-up, but note Husso has been excellent in the AHL with a .958 SP, 1.23 GAA and a shutout in three games.
It breeds a little confidence, but this is such a tough matchup for such an embattled goalie that I'd advise against streaming Husso. Even on the off-chance that Husso has a good game, he still has a big uphill climb to unseat Talbot and Lyon as the Wings' preferred tandem.
