NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Player Pickups Jan. 15 - Peterka Preferred

On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Vasily Podkolzin, LW/RW, EDM at MIN (10% rostered)

Podkolzin has diligently worked his way up the Oilers depth chart after being cast away by the Canucks. The former first-round pick has a good skill set, even if there's no standout skill, but he'll be skating on L2 with Leon Draisaitl and Viktor Arvidsson with the prospect of more playing time than usual if the Oilers dress 11 forwards. Podkolzin has three points, 13 shots and 12 hits in his past five games and faces a Wild defense that's missing half their regulars.

JJ Peterka, LW/RW, BUF vs. CAR (30% rostered)

I think we're getting back on the Peterka wagon. The German winger has six assists in his past five games - though his goal drought is at nine games - but he's also played over 21 minutes in two of his past three games. That's encouraging for a streaky winger who was really struggling earlier this season and came into the pre-season as a potential 30-goal scorer.

Marco Rossi, C, MIN vs. EDM (45% rostered)

Tough matchup considering Rossi will likely go head-to-head against either Connor McDavid or Draisaitl. Rossi's been a little quiet with only one helper in his past four games, but his usage continues to be excellent. Not having Kirill Kaprizov in the lineup obviously caps the Wild's offensive ceiling, but they will be leaning on Rossi's line for offense - there's no doubt about that.

Declan Chisholm, D, MIN vs. EDM (0% rostered)

Chisholm takes over as the QB on PP1 with both Jared Spurgeon and Brock Faber injured. Chisholm's ice time has increased to 20 minutes per game in their absence, a huge increase from his season average of 17, and while he's a boom-or-bust play on a very mediocre Wild power play, he's at least put more shots on goal recently with five in his past four games.
