What NHL EDGE Says About Sharks' Macklin Celebrini
San Jose Sharks rookie Mackin Celebrini is quickly figuring out the NHL. With NHL EDGE player and puck tracking, some numbers suggest he's already ascending to the league's top.
With 13 points in 14 games, Celebrini has re-inserted himself at the front of the Calder Trophy conversation with Philadelphia Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov. Celebrini has scored in three straight games, showcasing his elite shot.
To have a wrist shot this good at 18 is insane. pic.twitter.com/kfge42HJUK

According to NHL EDGE, Celebrini's hardest shot this season was 89.08 MPH, and the league average is 82.51. Celebrini's 89.08 MPH shot puts him in the 84th percentile. His average shot speed, 63.82, is in the 91st percentile. The league average is 56.90.
His wrist shot is elite, but so is his one-timer. His spot on the right flank on the powerplay is deadly because he can fake his one-timer, step in and shoot, or take the shot immediately.

Mix that with an extreme work ethic across all 200 feet of the ice and strong skating, and you get an elite superstar. Watching Celebrini can make someone forget that he's just 18 years old. Celebrini is in the 88th percentile for average miles skated per 60 minutes at 10.19.
He's had multiple moments hustling back into his defensive zone, breaking up a play, and creating offense for his team. He showcased that with a hit in the neutral zone against the Seattle Kraken last night before Jake Walman scored his first goal.

Celebrini never makes a wide turn, which hockey coaches hate. He can stop and start skating quickly. Remember, he's 18. These skills will improve as he gets stronger and even more comfortable in the NHL.
