NFL insider suggests Thomas Brown's success could save Matt Eberflus' job
Moving forward with their third offensive coordinator in the past two seasons, the Chicago Bears, and especially head coach Matt Eberflus, are hoping to find the answers that stick long term.
On Tuesday, the team announced they had fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and promoted Thomas Brown, who had been the passing game coordinator, as his replacement. The focus now shifts to what the Bears can do to turn around the offense as a whole, get rookie quarterback Caleb Williams back on track, and potentially, keep Eberflus' job as head coach.
Following the news of Waldron's dismissal, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated discussed what the move means for Eberflus' future in Chicago, and that Brown turning around the offense could bring Eberflus back to the Bears for the 2025 season.
Here's an excerpt from Breer's take on the Bears situation and how Brown's potential success could give Eberflus more job security:
For those who have called for a change at the head coaching position, the news that Brown could save Eberflus is unlikely to make them happy. However, there is undoubtedly more fans that want to see the offense as a whole unit and Caleb Williams, especially, turn it around on that part of the football.
Time will tell all, but the seat gets warmer by the day for Matt Eberflus, and the urgency for both him, and the offense to turn things around is at an all-time high right now.
