NFL injury report Week 16: Ravens QB Lamar Jackson out vs. Falcons with knee injury

Week 16 of the NFL season promises to be interesting with three regular-season games remaining and only five teams eliminated from playoff contention.

After Week 15’s historic showing — which saw three teams overcome deficits of 17-plus points to win — and the Jaguars' win over the New York Jets on Thursday night, here’s everything you need to know injury-wise headed into this weekend's games.

Lamar Jackson out for third straight game

The Baltimore Ravens host the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday and can clinch a playoff berth with a win, depending on the Jets, Dolphins and Patriots’ results.

However, Lamar Jackson won't take the field, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Thursday. The star quarterback sprained his PCL in Week 13 and has not practiced since.

Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley also appeared on the Ravens’ Wednesday injury report as limited due to his right shoulder, but will not have any issue starting according to Harbaugh.

Newly signed quarterback Brett Hundley will likely back up Huntley. The team also claimed wide receiver Sammy Watkins off waivers Wednesday to relieve Devin Duvernay, who was put on injured reserve after injuring his foot at practice.

Jalen Hurts out for Eagles with shoulder injury

With a win over the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles could clinch NFC East and the top seed in the NFC playoffs — but the team will likely make that effort without star quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Hurts sprained his throwing shoulder on a hard tackle during Sunday's win at Chicago. Head coach Nick Siriani confirmed on Thursday that backup quarterback Gardner Minshew will start.

“Jalen did everything he possibly could to get his body ready to go,” Sirianni said. “And just at the end of the day, he’s not going to be able to do it. He tried like crazy and I know he still wants to go.”

Minshew, a 2019 sixth-round draft pick, has made 22 starts in 30 career games.

Vander Esch out for Cowboys, Parsons and Diggs questionable

The Cowboys defense may be rather shorthanded on Saturday.

Linebacker and leading tackler Leighton Vander Esch was ruled out against the Eagles due to a neck injury he sustained in their loss to the Jaguars last week. He hasn't practiced all week, and was ruled out of the game on Thursday night.

Both cornerback Trevon Diggs and linebacker Micah Parsons are listed as questionable, too. The duo have battled an illness all week. Parsons got it first, though he returned to practice in a limited fashion on Thursday. Diggs didn't practice at all on Thursday.

Though they won't be going up against Hurts in Philadelphia, the Cowboys defense may struggle once again if they don't have three of their best players available.

Aaron Donald out vs. Broncos, likely done for season

Aaron Donald's season is almost certainly over.

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay said Friday that Donald won't play on Christmas in their game against the Denver Broncos, and he "probably" won't play again this season.

Donald hasn't played at all this month while dealing with a left ankle injury. He first went down in Week 12 in their loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, and hasn't played since. With the Rams having lost seven of their last eight and Donald still not fully healthy, there's really no reason to force his return.

Assuming he doesn't return, Donald will finish the season with 49 total tackles and a career-low five sacks.

Ryan Tannehill out vs. Houston Texans and beyond

Quarterback Malik Willis is likely to start the remaining games for the Titans, as veteran Ryan Tannehill is reportedly “very likely” out for the rest of the season after re-injuring his right ankle.

Tannehill originally suffered an ankle sprain on Oct. 23 against the Colts and missed two games before he returned. He re-injured his ankle on Sunday against the Chargers, but returned to play after missing one series.

The Titans currently hold the fourth seed in the AFC playoffs, but will also miss top offensive linemen in Ben Jones, Taylor Lewan and RG Nate Davis.

The team also signed quarterback Josh Dobbs to their 53-man roster on Tuesday to back up Willis.

Chase Young to make season debut

It's finally time for Chase Young's season debut.

The Washington Commanders defensive end will play in a limited role on Saturday in their matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, marking his first game back after he tore his right ACL and ruptured his patellar tendon last November.

The plan is for him to get just 12 to 16 snaps, so he won't play much. But after a lengthy recovery and several weeks of uncertainty, it's a welcome sign for the Commanders — who are still trying to make a push for the playoffs.
