NFL betting: Super Bowl odds move after big bet on New England Patriots

The New England Patriots went 7-9 in 2020, their first season without Tom Brady on the roster since 2000. The 2000 season was the last time the Patriots had a losing record, but one bettor at BetMGM thinks things will go a whole lot better for Bill Belichick’s group in 2021.

According to BetMGM, one customer placed a $10,000 bet on the Patriots to win the Super Bowl next season at +3000 odds. If that comes to fruition, the bettor would win $300,000.

Following that bet, BetMGM moved its odds for New England from +3000 to +2500.

The Patriots have won six Super Bowls under Belichick, but took a big step back from their usual excellency in 2020 with Brady now suiting up for (and winning another Super Bowl with) the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Since then, the Patriots were very active in free agency in an effort to bolster their roster. They also drafted Alabama quarterback Mac Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. Clearly, this bettor thinks those moves will make New England much more competitive in 2021.

Who are the 2021 Super Bowl favorites?

Last year’s Super Bowl participants are the betting favorites to win it all in 2021.

The Kansas City Chiefs are currently +450 to win it all, with the defending champion Bucs next in line at +650. Unsurprisingly, those two teams have received the most Super Bowl futures bets at BetMGM, with Tampa Bay receiving 17.1% of the tickets and Kansas City receiving 11.2% of the tickets.

The Bucs have attracted the most money, too, at 25.3%. The Chiefs are next at 12.6%.

Surprisingly, the Denver Broncos — perhaps spurred on by the Aaron Rodgers rumors that emerged around the time of the NFL draft — have received 9.3% of the bets and 10.4% of the money. The Broncos opened at +6500 but have moved to +2500.
