Neymar welcomes potential reunion with Messi, Luis Suarez at Inter Miami

Brazilian soccer star Neymar hopes to play in the next World Cup – hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026 – knowing it will be his last.

He would also welcome playing in the U.S. even sooner, possibly alongside his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

"Obviously playing again with Messi and Suarez would be incredible," Neymar, whose contract with Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al Hilal ends in June, told CNN Sport on Tuesday.

"They are my friends, we still speak to each other, it would be interesting to revive this trio.

"I am happy at Al Hilal and in Saudi Arabia, but who knows. Football is full of surprises," Neymar added.

Messi, Suarez and Neymar formed the MSN trio with FC Barcelona from 2014-17, where they won a Champions League title, a Club World Cup title, and three La Liga crowns.

Messi and Neymar also briefly played together with Kylian Mbappe at Paris Saint-Germain from 2021-23.

While Messi and Suarez reunited with Inter Miami last year, winning the MLS regular-season title, Neymar has had a turbulent climb back into action with Al Hilal after a major knee injury with Brazil during a World Cup qualifying game in Oct. 2023.

If Neymar joins Inter Miami this summer, he would also reunite with former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano – the latter recently named as the club’s new coach.

Neymar could also be available to immediately play for Inter Miami in the 2025 Club World Cup, which begins in mid-June.

Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas indicated he is open to signing Neymar, when he becomes available, during the Club World Cup group draw last month.

"The key word is if he were to become available. He is an Al-Hilal player now. He's not available to us," Mas said.

"I have always said we aspire to bring great players to our team. We have a lot of roster limitations and restrictions, but we have an unlimited budget. We are aspirational.

"If there is ever a chance to bring the caliber of a player like Neymar, we will not hesitate. It doesn't depend only on me. It depends on the player and the league. But yes, we aspire to build a great roster here."

Earlier this week, Neymar posted a photo of him and his son, wearing Messi’s Inter Miami jersey, on his Instagram story.

Neymar has often visited Miami during his spare time, including last March when he threw out the first pitch at a Marlins baseball game, attended a Heat basketball game and had dinner with Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.

"Welcome to Miami my friend (only for dinner)," Beckham wrote in a cheeky Instagram caption for a picture with Neymar and his wife Victoria.

Neymar’s comments weren’t the first time he expressed interest in reuniting with Messi or playing in MLS.

"Hopefully, we can play together again," Neymar said at the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix last February.

Neymar also said on a Feb. 2022 podcast he would "love to play in the U.S." for at least a season.

Regarding the next World Cup, Neymar hopes to again play with Brazil. He was unable to play with the national team during last summer’s Copa America, hosted in the U.S., because of his injury.

"I will try, I want to be there," he said Tuesday. "I know this will be my last World Cup, my last shot, my last chance, and I will do everything I can to play in it."
