News: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC Parts Ways with Coach Kim Do-heon
On the 16th, Jeonbuk revealed that they had agreed to terminate Kim Do-heon's contract by mutual consent.
After the resignation of head coach Dan Petrescu in May, Jeonbuk Hyundai appointed Kim Do-heon, who was recognized for his smart leadership and tactical focus, in an effort to rejuvenate the team and establish a new operational system.
Although Coach Kim faced challenges in the early stages of his tenure, he showcased some positive changes by reorganizing the team and recruiting players aligned with his philosophy during the summer transfer window, achieving a six-match unbeaten streak. However, the team ultimately fell short, finishing 10th in the league and failing to avoid the relegation playoffs.
In the relegation playoffs, Jeonbuk secured victories in both legs, successfully maintaining their spot in K League 1. Despite this, the overall performance and results throughout the season left many fans disappointed.
The club acknowledged Coach Kim's potential for tactical development and coaching direction but noted shortcomings in leadership and effective utilization of the player roster.
Ultimately, the club emphasized that bolder changes and decisive action were necessary to regain its position at the top of the K League and Asian football and restore its reputation.
Coach Kim expressed his sentiments, stating: "Coaching Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors has been the most valuable experience in my career. I am deeply grateful to the players who trusted and followed me. To the fans, I extend my sincerest apologies. It is with a heavy heart that I leave, knowing I couldn’t live up to your expectations. From now on, I will support Jeonbuk as a fan."
Meanwhile, Jeonbuk has announced that it plans to swiftly and fairly appoint an ideal candidate from a pool of highly qualified coaches with strong leadership and outstanding tactical and strategic skills to lead the team’s rebuilding and resurgence. Additionally, the club plans to accelerate changes in its coaching staff and player roster.
