Newcastle United eyeing up move for Barcelona outcast, varying reports on asking price

Barcelona may not be required to make a big sale in order to fund the arrival of Nico Williams – that’s according to president Joan Laporta, at least – but at least one will be required in order to balance the books ahead of next season kicking off in August. Right now, the obvious candidate to move on is Raphinha.

Despite having a very strong 2023-24 campaign, during which he was one of Barcelona’s better performers, Raphinha is not required for next season. Lamine Yamal will occupy the right flank, and if Williams does join from Athletic Club, there would be no space in the starting line-up for the Brazilian.

As thing stand, Saudi Arabian clubs are showing the most interested in Raphinha, although he has no intention of heading to the Middle East this summer. A return to the Premier League seems more plausible, and according to Football Insider (via MD), Newcastle United are showing interest.

MD say in their report that it would take €90m for Barcelona to sell Raphinha, although it was noted a few ago that the Catalans could accept €60m in order to get the 27-year-old off their books. Either way, it’s looking increasingly likely that he will be departing after only two years at the club.
