Newcastle United midfielder will sign new deal next month
Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff will reportedly sign a new contract next month, according to the Daily Mail.
The club will activate the option to extend his deal to the summer of 2026.
However, his future at St James’ Park still remains uncertain, with the club seemingly unwilling to offer him a longer contract.
Longstaff has admitted he is unsure if he will remain at St James’ Park.
“I want to be valued as a player – I want to be appreciated as a player and whether it’s here great,” Longstaff said. “If it’s not here and it’s somewhere else, it’ll be somewhere else.
“I live day to day, game to game, and I just try to take in every game. I get to go to work every day and spend it with my best friends.
“I don’t know what’s coming ahead, I don’t know what’s coming down the line, I just try to embrace every day and enjoy every minute because ultimately it won’t last forever.”
Newcastle’s inconsistent performances have resulted in Longstaff being criticised by fans, and it would be no surprise if the club decided to sell him.
Extending his contract gives them the opportunity to secure a fee for the midfielder. They could use the funds to sign a higher-quality replacement.
