Newcastle Set to Face Transfer Setback in Race for €65M-Rated Arsenal, PSG Target
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly considering ways to strengthen their attack ahead of 2025, with Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres emerging as a potential option. The latest update reveals that two clubs are keen on the goal-scorer, but one side face a significant hurdle.
According to Foot Mercato, PSG’s sporting advisor, Luís Campos, has expressed interest in the Swedish striker and has already initiated talks with his representatives. However, head coach Luis Enrique is said to have some reservations about the move.
Meanwhile, SPORT reports that Barcelona are contemplating a €70 million offer for Gyökeres, which could include a clause allowing him to stay at Sporting on loan for another season.
Additionally, CaughtOffside suggests that Newcastle might pursue Gyökeres if Alexander Isak leaves the club, though such a move is unlikely to happen during the January transfer window.
Arsenal remain in the race for Viktor Gyökeres
Football Transfers reported on Friday that the Gunners remain in contact with Gyökeres, as the Sweden international targets a move during the 2025 summer transfer window. Sporting are expected to sell the 26-year-old for around €65 million, with Newcastle United set to rival Arsenal in the race to sign him.
The report also highlights that Gyökeres values playing time assurances and is determined to join a club offering Champions League football—potentially creating a stumbling block for Eddie Howe’s side.
Nonetheless, former Arsenal player Martin Keown offered his take on the club pursuing the Sweden international, noting that “[Gyökeres is] not quick enough. And he wouldn’t have been quick enough in my day.”
