Newcastle hold Manchester City fear over potential Bruno Guimaraes transfer swoop
Manchester City are causing a feeling of fear within St James’ Park this summer as Newcastle United officials grow increasingly concerned regarding Bruno Guimaraes.
The Premier League champions are continuing their pursuit of new midfield recruits this summer having completed their opening signing of the ongoing market, with Savinho penning a long-term contract last week.
The Brazilian international joins Pep Guardiola’s squad on an initial £21 million deal, potentially rising to £33.6 million depending on the fulfilment of undisclosed add-ons stipulated in the agreement with fellow City Football Group side Troyes.
But with Manchester City transfer bosses aware of a number of factors in the centre of the park, including the urgent need for a back-up to Rodrigo in defensive midfield, work continues at an intense pace for those in recruitment positions.
As such, Manchester City’s interest in Newcastle United and Brazil international Bruno Guimaraes is likely to intensify in the coming days and weeks, causing plenty of concern in the north-east.
According to the information of GIVEMESPORT, Newcastle are ‘fearful’ of City taking Bruno Guimaraes away from St James’ Park this summer, despite the club opting against triggering a £100 million release clause last month.
It is claimed that there is ‘confidence’ from the Etihad Stadium that Guimaraes would be keen on completing a switch to Manchester City if the possibility arises, and an offer for the 26-year-old still cannot be ruled out whilst falling short of the aforementioned nine-figure sum.
From the side of the midfielder, it is explained that Guimaraes will evaluate his future and mull over whether it is the right time to embark on a fresh challenge, resulting in City monitoring the situation with serious intent.
Options aside from Guimaraes are few and far between for Manchester City, with only Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich noted as a realistic target for the Premier League champions given the German’s contractual situation at the Allianz Arena.
However, despite the prospect of a reunion with manager Pep Guardiola and the chance to operate more in midfield at the top of European football, some believe Kimmich could instead see out the remainder of his Bayern contract and leave on a free in the summer of 2025.
Aside from the midfield ranks, Manchester City could explore a deal for a new left-sided full-back following the departure of Sergio Gomez to Real Sociedad. However, no arrival in the role is expected to displace the likes of Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake as first-choices.
