Netherlands Star Decisive In Inter Milan 3-1 Empoli Serie A Win – Italy International Ineffective
Denzel Dumfries was decisive in Inter Milan’s 3-1 Serie A win over Empoli, while Federico Dimarco was not able to have an impact.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They contrast the performances of the two Nerazzurri wide players.
Dumfries and Dimarco have established themselves as Inter’s two starting wingbacks in recent weeks.
The two wide players offer somewhat different qualities on the flanks. But both have shown that they can unlock matches for Inter.
However, yesterday, it was the Dutchman who showed what he has to offer a lot more clearly.
Dumfries Decisive For Inter Vs Empoli – Dimarco “Limited”
Dumfries proved to be a key attacking outlet for Inter for much of yesterday’s match.
The 28-year-old was very often the player who was left in space against a disciplined Empoli defensive shape.
Dumfries would either stretch the pitch by pushing wide, or find pockets of central space, with defender Benjamin Pavard holding the width.
And Dumfries was always alert in making himself available to receive the ball. He frequently combined with teammates, particularly Nicolo Barella.
Then, in the second half, Dumfries proved decisive. He rose higher than Empoli wingback Emmanuele Gyasi and scored a perfectly-placed header from a corner to make it 2-0.
On the other hand, it was a bit of an evening to forget for Federico Dimarco.
Often, the Italian international is Inter’s main source of creativity with his passing and crossing.
However, Gyasi the Empoli defense were able to smother Dimarco’s influence. He rarely got himself on the ball in particularly dangerous positions.
And when the 27-year-old did manage to join the attack, his deliveries were not up to his usual standard.
