The final two spots in the EURO 2024 quarter finals were confirmed on Tuesday in another brilliant day of action.

Here’s what went down.

Demiral double sends Türkiye into date with the Dutch

Scorers: Gregoritsch 66′; Demiral 1′, 59′

Merih Demiral’s unlikely brace gave Türkiye a stunning 2-1 victory over Austria and a place in the last eight for the first time in 16 years.

A game that had been billed as the tie of the round got off to an incredible start, with an Austrian defensive mix up from an Arda Güler corner allowing Demiral to smash the ball home from close range after just 57 seconds. It was the quickest ever goal in EUROs knockout history.

The game continued at a lightning pace with Ralf Rangnick’s men almost equalising minutes later as both sides went blow for blow.

The game slowed down either side of the half until the same one-two punch from a corner saw Demiral head his side into a 2-0 lead.

Michael Gregoritsch blasted his side back into the game minutes later, but Austria could not find an equaliser as their EUROs adventure ended in Leipzig.

Vincenzo Montella’s Turks will now face the Netherlands with a place in the semi-finals on the line.

Oranje march on to last eight

Scorers: Gakpo 20′, Malen 83, 90+3′

The Netherlands booked their place in EURO 2024’s quarter finals with a comprehensive win over Romania.

Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a well-taken strike to beat Florin Niță at his near righthand post.

The Liverpool forward appeared to have doubled his tally early in the second half but saw his goal disallowed by VAR for offside.

Donyell Malen later assured the Oranje’s progress into the last eight with a late brace, first tapping home from Gakpo’s tee-up.

He extended the tally deep in stoppage-time with a cool finish on a counterattack to set up a date with Türkiye.
