Neil wants end to Esse Palace transfer 'limbo'
Millwall boss Alex Neil is hoping for a swift resolution to Romain Esse's future amid continuing transfer negotiations with Crystal Palace.
The 19-year-old was left out of Millwall's squad for their FA Cup third-round win against Dagenham & Redbridge on Monday amidst continuing talks between the two clubs.
Esse has scored five goals in 26 appearances and has been one of the Lions' standout performers this season.
Speaking on Thursday, Neil called for a decision on the move to be made soon in the interest of all parties.
"We want it done for the lad as much as anything else, you know," he told BBC Radio London.
"Being in limbo's not a good situation for anyone because if it's not going to get completed, I would be delighted for him to stay, and I'm sure everyone else at the club would be.
"But if it's going to happen, let's get it across the line, let's get it finalised, and we can start to plan what our next steps look like."
Esse came through the academy at Millwall and made his debut for the club in December 2022. He signed a new "long-term" contract in the summer.
Able to play in attacking midfield and on the wing, he has made a total of 66 appearances and scored seven goals for the club.
He last played in the Lions' 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, 4 January.
"It's been coming to a conclusion now for, I don't know, five days, but I'm not in control of things, and I think, to be honest, as a club, you've got so many different facets," Neil added.
"You've got the player and the agent obviously trying to get the best deal, you've got the other club trying to get the best deal, you've got Crystal Palace trying to get the best deal, so there are so many moving parts in it.
"But I'm sure it'll be concluded one way or the other pretty soon."
Millwall face Hull City in the Championship, while Crystal Palace visit West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.
