The final matches of the pool stage of the 2024-25 Champions Cup take place on Sunday.

Harlequins became the 14th side to clinch their spot in the last 16 knockout stage with victory over Glasgow Warriors on Saturday evening.

Ulster, Sharks, Racing 92 and Sale Sharks remain in the hunt to grab the two final places on Sunday.

How does qualification work?

The top four sides from each pool qualify, with the top two gaining home advantage in the last 16.

The teams finishing fifth in each pool will drop down into the last 16 of the Challenge Cup.

If two or more clubs in the same pool are equal on match points, their ranking will be determined by points difference, or if still equal, the number of tries scored in the pool stage.

In the unlikely event that both metrics are equal, it will be decided by the drawing of lots.

Teams are awarded four points for a win and two for a draw.

A bonus point is awarded to a club scoring four or more tries and also to a club losing by seven points or fewer - so a team doing both in a match but losing would get two points.

Who has already qualified?

Bordeaux-Begles, Toulouse, Leicester Tigers, Leinster, Northampton Saints, Toulon, Glasgow Warriors, Munster, Saracens, Castres, Benetton, Clermont Auvergne, Harlequins and La Rochelle.

Fixtures:

Sunday, 19 January - Bordeaux-Begles v Sharks (13:00 GMT), Toulouse v Leicester Tigers (15:15)

Ulster's bonus-point win over Exeter Chiefs secured at least Challenge Cup rugby, leaving the Chiefs without any more European rugby this season.

Richie Murphy's side still have a chance of reaching the Champions Cup last 16, but must hope Bordeaux thrash Sharks on Sunday by a big enough margin for them to go through on points difference.

Sharks need a point from their final game to reach the last 16, while Leicester Tigers, Toulouse and Bordeaux have all qualified.

Leicester face champions Toulouse on Sunday knowing a win could secure one of the top two seeds and home advantage in the last 16.

Maximum points for Bordeaux against Sharks will secure their spot as top seeds. Failure to do so will hand Toulouse or Tigers an opportunity to steal top spot.

Pool 2 - Bath miss out & Benetton qualify

Leinster win Pool 2

Pool 2 is all done and dusted.

Leinster secured top spot after defeating Bath in Dublin, with the Premiership leaders dropping to fifth after Benetton's surprise 32-25 win at home against former winners La Rochelle.

Clermont took fourth spot after their thrilling win over Bristol, who finish bottom of the pool, meaning Bath will now play in the Challenge Cup.

La Rochelle's losing bonus point against Benetton proved vital as it sealed their spot in the top two, ensuring a home tie in the last 16.

Pool 3 - will Saracens secure home last-16 tie?

Fixtures:

Sunday, 19 January - Saracens v Castres (15:15 GMT)

Northampton Saints sealed top spot and will play at home in the last 16, following their bonus-point win over Munster.

The Irish province can still finish in the top two if Castres win at Saracens, who will seal home advantage in the knockout stage with victory over the Top 14 side.

South African side Bulls will now feature in the Challenge Cup after their 48-7 victory over Stade Francais.

Pool 4 - Sale still alive

Toulon win Pool 4
[BBC]

Fixtures:

Sunday, 19 January - Sale v Toulon (17:30 GMT)

Toulon will finish in top spot regardless of their result against Sale Sharks on Sunday after Harlequins' win over Glasgow Warriors.

That result also secured Quins' spot in the last 16, with Glasgow already guaranteed a top-two place.

The final last-16 spot still remains up for grabs in Pool 4 after Racing 92 defeated Stormers 31-22.

Racing are in fourth spot and will qualify if Sale are defeated by Toulon.

A bonus-point win is likely needed for the Sharks to qualify given their weak points difference, and a point will secure Challenge Cup rugby.
