NCAA Weekend Notes: Big Nights For Bouveng and Kaltounkova

NCAA hockey continues to speed toward the post season. Here's a look at some of the top moments from this weekend.

Bouveng Notches A Hat Trick For Minnesota

The third-ranked Golden Gopher women's hockey team completed their second sweep of Minnesota State this season after a 5-2 victory on the road. Swedish forward Josefin Bouveng recorded her second career hat trick in the win.

"Great win," said Minesota head coach Brad Frost. "On the road, hard place to play. Got out to a nice four-nothing lead, and it looked like we were in business, but credit [Minnesota State] for making a push there at the end. Josefin [Bouveng] with three beautiful passes to her, to get her hat trick. Just a really nice job overall. Again, great start with the power play goal there early, and so anytime we can jump out of the gates like that is great."

Four Point Night For Kaltounkova, Murphy Gets The Shutout

Fifth-year added a pair of goals and assists, junior notched her 13th multi-point outing of the season, and sophomore logged her second-ever multi-point performance as the No. 5 Raiders raced by No. 13 Princeton, 4-0, on Saturday. Senior contributed her 16th career shutout in the victory, the most in program history, as she earned her 64th career win. She inches closer to the program record of 75 triumphs set by Julia Vandyk '19.

Gascon Brilliant But Ohio State Sweeps Minnesota-Duluth

The No. 2 Ohio State women’s hockey team took game one of the top five series against No. 4 Minnesota Duluth Friday night, winning 3-1 despite a 58 save performance from Eve Gascon in the UMD net. Jocelyn Amos lit the lamp 1:28 into the 5-on-4 for the Buckeyes to give the team the 1-0 lead. Riley Brengman added Ohio State’s second goal in the opening 10 minutes of play, scoring on a one-timer at 9:31. Kiara Zanon iced the game with an empty netter with 1:09 remaining in the game.

Game two was a similar story. Gascon played valiantly facing 46 shots in a 2-1 loss. Joy Dunne and McKenna Webster did the scoring for Ohio State, while Olivia Wallin had the Minnesota-Duluth goal.
