NBA rumors: Heat, 76ers considering trades for Lowry as deadline nears

The Toronto Raptors' downward spiral continued on Monday, adding more fuel to the fire ahead of Thursday's NBA trade deadline.

With the season in disarray, trade talks surrounding Norman Powell and Kyle Lowry continue to heat up, and it may come down to the wire.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that both the Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers have discussed several deals for Powell and Lowry. Both the Sixers and Heat are reportedly showing restraint about how much they're willing to offer for the perennial All-Star Lowry.

Sportsnet's Michael Grange reported that the point of contention surrounding a deal between the Raptors and the Heat is Miami's willingness to give up Tyler Herro. Miami is reportedly willing to trade Duncan Robinson, but Toronto prefers the 21-year-old Herro.

It was reported on Sunday that the Heat are Lowry's preferred destination if he is dealt, and that the Raptors would be asking for either Duncan Robinson or Herro in return. This move would allow Lowry to play for a championship contender while also uniting him with close friend Jimmy Butler.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported on the Hoop Collective podcast that the Brooklyn Nets have emerged as a potential destination for Powell. The six-year veteran is having a breakout year and developing into one of the league’s elite scorers, averaging 19.5 points per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 43.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Windhorst suggested the Raptors could potentially acquire Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie, who is out for the year with a knee injury, in exchange for Powell if a deal were to be made prior to the deadline. Dinwiddie averaged 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per game during the 2019-2020 season.

Meanwhile, trade talks continue to swirl around Lowry, with Windhorst reporting that the six-time All-Star could have his next contract in place by this week, whether it's by re-signing in Toronto or following a trade to the Heat or 76ers.

Between Powell and Lowry’s scoring, leadership, and championship pedigree, it’s clear they have the talent to help teams compete for a title, it’s just a question of where they will end up after the trade deadline.
