Kevon Looney exited Game 5 late after aggravating chest injury, optimistic for Game 6
Golden State center Kevon Looney left Game 5 on Monday night after re-aggravating his chest injury that sidelined him earlier in the NBA Finals, adding yet another injury for the Warriors to deal with.
Looney left the game at Scotiabank Arena in the third quarter after clearly playing through pain and was taken back to the locker room. The Warriors later announced that he had re-injured his right first costal cartilage non-displaced fracture injury and did not return.

Looney first suffered the injury in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors, an injury that was initially thought to be season-ending and forced him to miss Game 3. According to the San Jose Mercury News, the injury is a fracture where in the first rib of the ribcage meets the sternum, or breastplate, in the middle of the chest.
Looney finished with four points and three rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.
According to Mark Medina of the San Jose Mercury News, Looney is optimistic about returning for Game 6 of the series on Thursday night. The training staff told him that he can’t make the injury any worse than it already is, and that it’s just a matter of managing his pain.

Despite falling down early and losing both Looney and Kevin Durant — who suffered an Achilles injury after going down in the first half — the Warriors rallied late and escaped Scotiabank Arena with a 106-105 win in Game 5. They now trail the Raptors 3-2 in the NBA Finals ahead of Thursday’s Game 6 at Oracle Arena.
