Here is who national experts predict to win Denver Broncos at KC Chiefs game

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton (14) pulls in a reception for a touchdown in front of Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid (20) in the fourth quarter Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

One stat that could be highlighted during the Chiefs-Broncos game Sunday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium: 1-16.

That’s the Broncos’ record in the series going back to 2015. But that one win came last season when Denver downed the Chiefs 24-9. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes was under the weather that day, but the Chiefs scored just 28 total points in the two games against the Broncos in the 2023 season.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce expects a battle.

“We’re gonna be in a bar-fight with these guys, 100%,” Kelce said on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. “Coach (Sean) Payton’s got those guys over there playing with some heart, man. And, obviously, it being a division rival and Broncos-Chiefs, it doesn’t get any bigger of a rivalry than that, and it’s gonna be a tough one. I mean it’s at Arrowhead (Stadium) but it’s gonna be a tough one man.”

Will Denver get a second straight victory over the Chiefs? Here is who 64 experts are picking in the game, which kicks off at noon and airs on KCTV (Ch. 5).

The Chiefs will win 27-17, says the Sporting News’ Bill Bender. Here is a snippet of his story: “The Chiefs are playing in the early window for the first time this season. Will that be an adjustment for Patrick Mahomes and the offense? ... The Chiefs have won the past eight home meetings in this series.”

A 26-20 Chiefs victory is the forecast from the Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi. Here is a passage from his story: “The unbeaten two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs are starting to hit their stride on offense as Patrick Mahomes and De’Andre Hopkins have made a quick connection. The Chiefs have owned the Broncos, winning 16 of the previous 17 games. But this is a different Denver team. The Broncos are on the rise behind coach Sean Payton and rookie QB Bo Nix.”

The Chiefs are the pick for the eight writers at CBS Sports: Pete Prisco, Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson, Dave Richard, Jamey Eisenberg, John Breech, Jared Dubin and Tyler Sullivan. Prisco predicts a 29-17 score. This is from his story: “Kansas City seemed to find its offense a bit against Tampa Bay, while the Broncos defense was shredded by Lamar Jackson last week. This is a tough ask for Denver on the road again. Look for the Chiefs to stay undefeated as their defense gets the best of Bo Nix.”

Picking the Chiefs are each of the seven USA Today writers: Jarrett Bell (27-17 final score), Chris Bumbaca (21-10), Nate Davis (27-13), Tyler Dragon (27-16), Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (34-13), Lorenzo Reyes (26-10) and Jordan Mendoza (22-19). This is what Mendoza wrote: “The spread here (7 1/2 points) seems a bit large given Kansas City doesn’t have a real knack for blowing opponents out this season. Still, the Chiefs do enough to get the victory and remain perfect.”

Going with the Chiefs are these five writers at NFL.com: Ali Bhanpuri (24-17 final score), Brooke Cersosimo (29-23), Dan Parr (24-17), Gennaro Filice (26-19) and Tom Blair (30-20). This is an excerpt of what Cersosimo wrote: “Broncos rookie QB Bo Nix has been pretty solid, with the exception of last week’s 41-10 loss to Baltimore. That was somewhat concerning, considering Baltimore’s recent defensive struggles, because now Nix will face a Chiefs D that traditionally causes fits for rookie QBs (5-2 against them with Steve Spagnuolo as DC). Bum ankle or not, Mahomes and the Chiefs are rolling and aren’t likely to let down against this division ‘rival,’ as Kansas City’s transcendent QB is 12-1 in his career against Denver.”

A 27-15 Chiefs win is the prediction from the Arizona Republic’s Jeremy Cluff. Here is an excerpt from his story: “Denver rookie Bo Nix is going to experience some more growing pains in Kansas City.”

Going with the Chiefs are all six writers at the Athletic: Austin Mock, Tashan Reed, Chad Graff, Larry Holder, Josiah Turner and Josh Kendall. This is from Stephen Louis Goldstein’s story: “Kansas City’s next challenge comes in the form of rookie quarterback Bo Nix, a disciplined young defense and the upstart Denver Broncos. At 5-4, the Broncos are in the thick of the AFC playoff race but must recover from their most lopsided loss of the year after last week’s 41-10 thumping from the Ravens. Denver has the personnel to slow down Mahomes and company — cornerback Pat Surtain II should be up for the challenge of shadowing DeAndre Hopkins, and four Broncos have at least four sacks. Breakout linebacker Nik Bonitto had a sack in six consecutive games prior to the Baltimore loss.”

The Chiefs are the choice for nine of the 11 ESPN experts: Stephania Bell, Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Dan Graziano, Jeremy Fowler, Kimberly Martin, Jason Reid, Lindsey Thiry and Seth Wickersham. Going with Denver are Kalyn Kahler and Moses Moody.

Picking the Chiefs are five of six Sports Illustrated writers: Albert Breer, Mitch Goldich, Gilberto Manzano, John Pluym and Matt Verderame. Choosing Denver: Conor Orr.

Taking the Chiefs are both Pro Football Talk writers: Mike Florio (27-23 final score) and Chris Simms (23-17).

The Chiefs will win, say all 10 Dallas Morning-News members: Tim Cowlishaw, Joey Hayden, Dana Larson, Damon Marx, Craig Miller, David Moore, Abraham Nudelstejer, Newy Scruggs, Kevin Sherrington and Calvin Watkins.

Picking the Chiefs are all six SB Nation writers: JP Acosta, James Dator, David Fucillo, Brandon Lee Bowton, Jared Mueller and Matt Warren.
