Napoli Slated to Confirm Three Expected Renewals Soon
Napoli have lined up three contract extensions while waiting to come to terms with the Khvicha Kvaratskhelia camp. Antonio Conte asked for continuity to take over last summer, in addition to a few signings, and he’ll be satisfied, La Gazzetta dello Sport informed (via Tuttomercatoweb).
The Partenopei have struck a deal with Alex Meret, who can choose between a one-year renewal with an option, with a €2.5M salary, or a three-year deal for €2M annually. The parties have shaken hands, and the announcement could arrive before Christmas. He would have been a free agent at the end of the season without a new agreement.
Napoli plot to hold onto and reward Frank Anguissa and Mathias Olivera as well. There’s a two-year option in the midfielder’s current contract, but the Partenopei will tender a new three-year one, raising his salary to €3M. There’s significant optimism in this case too.
The Uruguayan defender has been a minor revelation this campaign. The Azzurri had brought in Leonardo Spinazzola to be a starter. Instead, he has benefitted from a tactical switch and starred regularly, faring well for the most part. He’s already tied to the team long-term, until 2027, but his wages are relatively low, €1.5M. The brass will dangle a €500k pay bump and to tack on two more years.
In the meantime, Kvaratskhelia has recovered more quickly than anticipated from his knee sprain and is likely to make the bench versus Genoa.
Our Take on Napoli
It’s still not a definitive commitment to Meret but still better than nothing. Anguissa has returned to stellar levels, while Olivera has been perfectly fine.
