On Sunday, Atletico Madrid confirmed the departure of Mario Hermoso. It had been known for some time that the 29-year-old would be leaving the Civitas Metropolitano upon the expiry of his contract, which is why it is surprising that he has yet to agree terms with any clubs.

It’s become apparent that Italy looks to be the most likely destination for Hermoso, who has been linked with Inter Milan and Napoli over the last few months. The latter appear to be well-placed, although they do not consider the former Atleti to be a priority.

As per Diario AS, Hermoso is a low-cost alternative to Alessandro Buongiorno, whom Napoli are advancing for. He’s also attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, although a move to Italy seems more plausible.

Atletico Madrid are already moving on from Hermoso, with plans being made to replace him with Feyenoord’s David Hancko. They are favourites to sign the Slovakian defender, whose future could be defined in the coming weeks.
