Eliesse Ben Seghir, Maghnes Akliouche, and Soungoutou Magassa all succeeded in making the step from the academy at AS Monaco to the club’s first team.

However, Eliot Matazo (22) has thus far failed to make that step. The Belgium youth international has played a bit-part role, without ever being able to truly establish himself as a first-team player. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Royal Antwerp and whilst he stay with Monaco this season, he has found gametime limited.

Matazo has made just seven appearances, including just one start, in the Coupe de France against lower-tier side Union Saint-Jean. That is despite Denis Zakaria missing multiple matches through injury. As a result, the Belgian could leave the Principality club in January.

Under contract until 2026, FC Nantes have begun talks to sign the midfielder, according to a report from L’ÉquipeMatazo could even leave Les Monégasques on a permanent deal, although Nantes may not find the deal financially viable and may therefore be forced into a loan move.
