'My First Home Run': They thought Justin Turner was going to bunt, he hit a dinger instead

The Justin Turner we know now isn’t the one who was playing for the New York Mets back in 2011. He’d been up to the big leagues in the previous two seasons, one with the Baltimore Orioles, the other with the Mets.

He wasn’t a star. He didn’t have the face-of-the-franchise pedigree that he does now. And so he waited quite a while for his first homer in the big leagues.

Even when it came, nobody was really expecting it. He was in a situation where it made sense for him to bunt — even the announcers thought so.

Turner is the next MLB star to tell us a story in our new “My First Homer” video series. If you missed our previous installment, it featured San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer.

We’ll let Turner take it from here.
