Yunus Musah has admitted that the arrival of Sergio Conceicao has brought ‘different ideas’ that the AC Milan squad are starting to get to grips with.

Milan’s mission tonight in Sergio Conceicao’s first Champions League game since taking over was simple: win to continue the push towards a top eight spot, which would secure direct qualification for the last 16 without needing a play-off.

To say that the air around the club was uneasy before the game would probably be fair, though. Conceicao has publicly criticised the squad on more than one occasion already – most notably after Saturday’s damaging loss to Juventus – all while protests continue towards the ownership.

The coach called for the fans to get behind the team because of the importance of unity during an ‘emergency’, and the result was a 1-0 victory in which Rafael Leao scored the only goal. It wasn’t a vintage performance, but it got the job done and saw Milan rise to sixth.

Musah spoke to Prime Video and Milan TV after the full-time whistle having put in a tireless shift on the right flank, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews

What percentage are you at?

“As we show every game we want to win. Today there were many periods where we had to suffer and periods where we had to keep the ball.”

You passed on a big chance and then hit the post…

“I want to score and sometimes you make the wrong choices but you have to react immediately and try again: I tried and I hit the post.”

Has anything changed with Conceicao?

“It’s different, we have a new coach with different ideas and we have to adapt. We won the Supercoppa which made us understand that we have to do something big.”

Are you lacking belief in front of goal?

“I have to try harder, believe more when I’m in front of goal. We could have had a bigger lead and been more relaxed.”

The team’s form in Europe is good…

“Before this we had won four games in a row, now we have put ourselves in a very good position to go through.”

Now, qualification for the round of 16 is close…

“From the beginning we wanted to do very well in this competition, we wanted to win it. We see that we can do well and we have to continue like this.”
