Mr. 600: Sebastian Aho Reaches Milestone With Overtime Game Winner

Sebastian Aho just continues to be everything for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Despite a tough start to the year, Aho has slowly started to build his game back up to the level that we expect to see him at and it culminated in a massive performance Sunday night.

"I thought he was, not one of the best players out there, maybe the best player on the ice tonight," said Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour.

In 21 minutes of ice time, had three shots on goal, won 81% of his draws primarily matched up against Sidney Crosby, and led the team's second-period come back.

Aho not only had a three-point showing, but even scored the overtime winner against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Lenovo Center, crashing the net and putting home a rebound chance.

"The last little while here, he's been very noticeable," Brind'Amour said. "There was a stretch there where you were just like, 'Eh.' He'd been okay, but not necessarily impactful. You really notice him lately. Even when he's not scoring or not on the scoresheet, he's been around it. That's the guy we need and you generally see."

The winner was also his 600th career point in just his 638th game — Aho is just the second player in team history to reach that marker —and the centerman moved him into sole possession for the most overtime winners by a Finnish-born player in NHL history with 14 OT goals.

"It means that I've been lucky enough to play a long time in this league and for this great organization and with great players around me," Aho said about the 600-point milestone. "It's a good one."

Aho now has 13 goals and 43 points on the season, just four behind Martin Necas for the team lead.

Him and linemate Seth Jarvis have really started to elevate their game and it starting to show much like it did Sunday.

"When you have leaders like that playing as good as they are, it's easy to follow behind, play with them and compete with them," said Jalen Chatfield.
