Stuart Kettlewell's "vision" for Motherwell was key to securing the signing of Steve Seddon, the new left-back says.

The 26-year-old has joined the Fir Park side on a one-year-deal, with the option of a further year, following his exit from Oxford United.

After spending last season on loan at Burton Albion in League One, Seddon is excited to play north of the border for the first time.

"It's something really different for me," he told the club's website.

"The manager spoke to me at length about the vision for the club and that's what grabbed me.

"It's not just about the present, he's planning for the future and looking to build. Hopefully I can play my part in that."

The former Reading and Birmingham City academy product made 42 appearances for Burton last season, primarily at left-back - a position Kettlewell stressed he knew "needed strengthened" - but he also featured in midfield.

"We have been trying to recruit someone who is not only the right type of player, but the right type of person too," manager Kettlewell added.

"Steve has played a lot of football down in England and with that comes vast experience.

"I hope he hits the ground running. You can tell he is raring to get going."
