Moretto: Futuro winger ‘99%’ certain to leave Milan on a free transfer
Milan Futuro star Hugo Cuenca is expected to leave the club on a free transfer, according to a report, and the Paraguayan international has an ideal destination in mind.
Cuenca joined Milan’s Primavera in 2022 for around €400k and the expectations were quite high. 67 games, 8 goals and 7 assists later, the 20-year-old could say goodbye as his contract with the club will expire in the summer.
In a tweet, which has since been deleted (see photo below), Matteo Moretto stated that it’s ‘99%’ certain that the right-winger won’t renew his contract with Milan. He would prefer a move to Spain and rumours suggesting he could be used as a counterpart by the Rossoneri are thus not true.
Of course, it’s never ideal to lose your talents on free transfers but it does happen relatively frequently even for other clubs. It should also be mentioned that Cuenca’s spell at Milan has been characterised by ups and downs, including injuries that haven’t made life easy.
It remains to be seen if Milan will make an attempt to renew the contract but based on the report, the winger will depart. Cuenca has been on the sidelines since October as well due to an injury, so perhaps the Rossoneri aren’t keen on renewing.
