Monza sack manager Nesta and appoint Bocchetti
Serie A side Monza have appointed Salvatore Bocchetti as their new manager after sacking Alessandro Nesta on Monday.
The club are at the bottom of the Serie A table with only one win in 17 matches this season and are five points from safety.
Bocchetti's only previous managerial experience came at Hellas Verona in 2022 when he lost all six games as their caretaker boss.
The 38-year-old's first match in charge of Monza will be on Saturday when they face Parma, who are five points ahead of them in 16th place.
Former Italy defender Nesta saw Monza suffer a 2-1 defeat by Juventus on Sunday in what proved to be his final game in charge.
Nesta, who played as a centre-back for clubs including AC Milan and Lazio, took over as the Monza boss before the start of the season.
But his first managerial role in Serie A ended with Monza suffering their third consecutive defeat at the weekend, extending their winless run to nine matches.
"The club thanks the coach for what he has done so far and wishes him the best for the future," Monza said in a statement.
Having won the 2006 World Cup with Italy, Nesta made his managerial debut with Miami FC in 2015 before stints with Italian lower division sides Perugia, Frosinone and Reggiana.
