Montreal marathon shuts Jacques-Cartier Bridge, roads throughout city

Today's Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montréal Marathon means closures in a number of boroughs throughout the city, as well as the shut down of the Jacques Cartier Bridge until noon.

Some 35,000 runners are expected to take part in one of today's races, with about 5,000 registered for the full marathon.

One of the runners, Stéphane Demers, 47, is taking part in the race after having a heart attack near the finish line last year. He will run this year alongside the doctor who saved his life.

The annual marathon isn't the only source of traffic woes this weekend.

Here's a guide to the closures.

Marathon closures

The Jacques-Cartier Bridge will be completely closed from 4 a.m. Sunday until noon for the marathon.

A number of roads on Île Sainte-Hélène and Île Notre-Dame and in the Ville-Marie, Plateau-Mont-Royal, Rosemont-La-Petite-Patrie and Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension boroughs will be closed Sunday as well, in most cases from about 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the latest.

Turcot Interchange eastbound (heading toward downtown)

Highway 20 will be closed eastbound between Exit 64 (St-Jacques Street/Angrignon Boulevard) until the Route 138 entrance from Friday at 11:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday.

The portion of Highway 20 east inside the Turcot Interchange will also be completely closed Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon, meaning no access to the Ville-Marie.

Route 138 eastbound will be completely closed starting at Exit 64 from Friday at 11:30 p.m. until Saturday at 7 a.m. Then, until 5 a.m. Monday, there will be one lane available.

Turcot Interchange westbound

There's no access to Highway 20 westbound from the Angrignon Boulevard/Notre-Dame Street entrance and from the Monk Boulevard/Notre-Dame Street entrance from Friday at 11 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

Highway 20 westbound will be closed from Exit 67 (Notre-Dame Street/Angrignon Boulevard) to the St-Pierre Interchange from Saturday at 12:30 a.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

The ramps to Highway 15 South (toward the Champlain Bridge) and Highway 20 (toward the West Island) from the Ville-Marie Expressway will be closed from Friday at 11:59 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

And the exit toward the Ville-Marie from Highway 15 South will be closed from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday for paving work.
