Montreal Canadiens Assign 27 Players to Laval Rocket
The Montreal Canadiens announced significant changes to their training camp roster, sending 27 players to their AHL affiliate Laval Rocket's training camp and placing two more on waivers.
The team sent forwards Vincent Arseneau, Alex Beaucage, Laurent Dauphin, Israel Mianscum, Logan Nijhoff, Jakov Novak and Charles Savoie, defensemen Zackary Hayes, Joshua Jacobs, Chris Jandric, Simon Motew, Jacob Paquette, Vincent Sévigny and Tyler Wotherspoon, and goaltenders Luke Cavallin and Hunter Jones to Laval.

They also assigned forwards Owen Beck, Jared Davidson, Sean Farrell, Riley Kidney, Filip Mesar, Jacob Perreault, Xavier Simoneau, Luke Tuch, Florian Xhekaj, defenseman William Trudeau and goaltender Connor Hughes to the Club’s AHL affiliate.
The difference between sending down and assigning players to the AHL is the players who were sent down are on AHL contracts or PTOs, while those who were assigned have entry-level or two-way NHL contracts.
They have also placed forwards Lucas Condotta and Brandon Gignac on waivers for the purposes of reassignment to the AHL.
12 of these skaters played at least one game for Laval last season, including Gignac who led the Rocket scoring last season with 55 points in 61 games. Novak led Montreal's ECHL affiliate Trois-Rivières Lions in scoring.
Laval made a flurry of signing this offseason to strengthen the team after missing the playoffs and finishing last in the AHL North Division last season.
Rocket training camp begins Oct. 1, the team opens their season against the Providence Bruins on Oct. 11.
