Montour Scores First Career Hat Trick as Kraken Win in Montreal

The Seattle Kraken started their road trip on a high note, defeating the Montreal Canadiens 8-2 on Monday night. It was the first of two games against the Canadiens this season and the only meeting in Montreal.

An improved power play percentage, dominating defense, and Brandon Montour were the three keys to the win. Starting in the net for the Kraken was Joey Daccord and Sam Montembeault for the Canadiens.

Montour earned four points and scored his first career natural hat trick. His third goal was the Kraken's third power play goal of the game. Montour surpasses Vince Dunn's record for the most points scored by a defenseman in a game. Montour is proving that the Kraken's investment in the former Stanley Cup winner from Florida is paying off.

Jamie Oleksiak set the tone of the game scoring 25 seconds into the start of the first period.

Jared McCann led the Kraken in winning possession.

Jamie Oleksiak (1 goal), Ryker Evans (1 goal), and Brandon Montour (3 goals) set a new record for the most defensemen to score in a single game in franchise history.

1st Period Highlights: After Jamie Oleksiak scored 25 seconds into the opening period. Ryker Evans scored 3:49 seconds later with a snap shot assisted by Andre Burakovsky and Chandler Stephenson.

Jaden Schwartz scored on a power play at 7:27 from a roughing call on Kirby Dach against Tye Kartye.

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored with a snap shot, assisted by Jaden Schwartz, making the lead 4-0 until Montreal's Cole Caufield put one up on the board.

2nd Period Highlights: Brandon Montour scored the Kraken's second power play goal of the night at 1:32 seconds into the start of the second. After Montréal's Alex Newhook is called for slashing against Matty Beniers.

Montour scored his second goal of the night with backhand shot at 8:22 assisted by Oleksiak and Schwartz making it 6-1.

3rd Period Highlights: Montour scoring his first career natural hat trick at 14:12 assisted by Oleksiak and Schwartz making it 7-1.

Eeli Tolvinen with a snap shot at 15:14 assisted by Josh Mahura and Matty Beniers brings the lead 8-1 until Josh Anderson nets a second goal for the Canadiens.

Seattle's five-game road trip continues in Toronto (Oct. 31), Ottawa (Nov. 2), Boston (Nov. 3), and Colorado (Nov. 5).
