Montolivo echoes thoughts of Milan fans after RedBird statement: “It creates uncertainty”
The former AC Milan captain Riccardo Montolivo shared his thoughts on RedBird refinancing the vendor loan with Elliott live on Sky Italia last night. Echoing the thoughts of many fans, he believes there is currently great uncertainty.
Gerry Cardinale was under some pressure to get a solution in place, with a lack of new investors and the loan expiring in August 2025. However, a few hours before Verona-Milan, the Rossoneri and RedBird announced that the loan had been refinanced until 2028.
Sky Italia was live with the pre-match coverage at the time and Riccardo Montolivo, the former Milan captain, was asked about the matter. He echoed the thoughts of the fans, stating that there is a lot of uncertainty, but also highlighted that Paulo Fonseca must do better.
“It’s a situation that creates uncertainty. I think that in any case, we can criticise Fonseca for not being able to create an understanding with the key players. The fans are undoubtedly disappointed by the clouds they see over the future: in this sense, news about the renewals of Reijnders and Maignan are good.
“However, this team needs to be strengthened: we are talking about a team that came in second and is now in eighth place. So there are problems,” he said as cited by MilanNews.
It remains to be seen if some reinforcements will be made in January. Ismael Bennacer has now returned to training and will be a boost for the midfield, but he cannot be relied on immediately given the nature of his injury.
