AS Monaco’s Adi Hütter: ‘Winning against Barcelona, one of the biggest clubs in the world, gives us confidence.’

Adi Hütter made his UEFA Champions League debut as a manager as AS Monaco, making their first appearance in the competition for six years, beat Barcelona 2-1 at the Stade Louis II.

Maghnes Akliouche and George Ilenikhena got the goals for Monaco after Eric García’s early red card. At a press conference, attended by Get French Football News, Hütter reacted to what was a special victory.

“I am really proud and really happy. It was some players’ first time in the Champions League and my debut too. The red card early in the game gave us an advantage; it helped us. I think [even before the red card] we were in the game and I think over the course of the match, we deserved the victory,” began Hütter.

He added, “Winning against Barcelona, one of the best teams in the world, makes us proud. It gives us confidence […] I’m not surprised (by the result) because we have started the season really well. We have only conceded one goal in our first four Ligue 1 games. I expected my team to play bravely.”
