Pre-season is a time to adjust back to the footballing calendar whilst also preparing for the upcoming season, and with a new manager at the helm for AC Milan, the squad will focus on the principles of Paulo Fonseca’s football.

Stefano Pioli’s tenure ending also means that Milan will become familiar with a new brand of football in the coming months. However, the work must be done now to ensure the players are comfortable playing the style that Fonseca wants.

The goal for the Rossoneri was to hire a coach who could make the side play exciting, attacking football – which is what almost every club in the world looks for in management nowadays. However, the number of coaches who successfully pull it off are slim.

Formationally, there is not much, if any, transition required from the players, but with Fonseca demanding a side who press relentlessly, the work must be done now to ensure that the players can cope with the workload.

As Milan News reports, today’s training was focused on technical and tactical work before ending with some athletic work. Given Fonseca’s style is built around these three principles, it is not the first or last time that sessions will be structured this way.
