Rafael Leao underwent an MRI earlier today following the injury sustained in AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Hellas Verona. Although a lesion was ruled out, the winger will definitely miss the game against Roma next weekend.

Leao left the pitch at Stadio Bentegodi after just 30 minutes last night, with initial reports suggesting that it was due to a ‘left flexor strain’. Paulo Fonseca was then asked about the matter in his post-match interview, but stated that it didn’t look like anything serious.

Today, Leao underwent an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury and the good news is that a lesion was ruled out. Instead, as reported byAntonio Vitiello of MilanNews, we are talking about an ‘ elongation of the left flexor muscle’.

New checks will be carried out a week from now, i.e. Saturday, and that means he will definitely miss the game against Roma (scheduled for Sunday the 29th). The hope is that he will be back in action for the Supercoppa Italiana, with Juventus up in the semi-final on January 3rd.

In the meantime, Fonseca will likely have to rely on Alex Jimenez in the left-wing role as Noah Okafor is out with an injury as well. Another option would be to play Christian Pulisic on the left, as he’s expected to return for the Roma game.
