MMA legend Forrest Griffin thinks Dustin Byfuglien could hold his own in UFC

It’s no secret that Dustin Byfuglien is an absolute beast on the ice.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound behemoth of a blueliner puts his strength on display on a nightLY basis for the Winnipeg Jets, but a UFC Hall of Famer and former champion thinks Big Buff’s terrifying presence in the NHL would translate nicely to the octagon.

Yahoo Canada Sports caught up with ForRest Griffin in Vegas recently, where the legend shared his thoughts on Byfuglien’s potential as a UFC heavyweight.

“He’s already unfortunately found a career path, but I think Dustin would DOwell. Just yanked two guys off the pile and skated them back. And he did it in such a matter that the two guys that got yanked back were just like ‘OK!'”

On which athletes best translate their skills to the cage, Griffin says hockey players rank among the best.

“Hockey players tend to be pretty good across the board. They tend to be pretty tough and durable. Basketball players tend to be pretty bad across the board. Football players are totally hit or miss. Some football players are really coordinated, athletic — they pick it up quick. Then some are just awful,” he said.
