Which MLS clubs are in Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, U.S. Open Cup in 2025? Here's the list
All 30 Major League Soccer teams will compete in at least one, but no more than two North American competitions during the 2025 MLS season.
MLS announced its qualification structure for the four tournaments – the Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and Canadian Championship – on Tuesday for the next two seasons. The qualifications will be revisited in the 2027 season.
Only Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami and the Seattle Sounders will participate in three tournaments this year. They’ll play in the Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, and this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.
The Champions Cup is determined by Concacaf. Ten MLS clubs – including MLS Cup champion L.A. Galaxy, Leagues Cup champion Columbus Crew and Inter Miami – are participating in the tournament, which begins next month.
The Leagues Cup will feature 18 MLS clubs and 18 LIGA MX teams competing in the tournament from July 29 to Aug. 31. The top nine teams in each MLS Conference from the prior season qualify.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup will see 16 MLS clubs participate – nine clubs not competing in either Leagues Cup or Concacaf Champions Cup, and seven others determined by the Supporters’ Shield standings, not competing in the Concacaf Champions Cup. Ten 10 MLS NEXT Pro teams will also compete in the tournament.
All three Canadian MLS teams – CF Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver – will again compete for the Canadian Championship. Vancouver, which won it last year, will compete in the Concacaf Champions Cup, while Montreal will participate in Leagues Cup.
