When is the MLB trade deadline? Date, time for 2024
MLB trade deadline day is here, which means a flurry of late transactions could be on the horizon.
Since 1986, MLB has had a trade deadline set for this time of the year. Strategically placed roughly two weeks after the All-Star break, the deadline gives all 30 teams the chance to reckon with their odds of contending for a championship and encourages communication and transactions.
Teams in position to make a push for the playoffs and a World Series title become "buyers" at the deadline as they look to trade for MLB veterans that could improve their teams. "Sellers," on the other hand, are teams that feel they can't readily compete for a title this season and look to build up the future of their roster by receiving prospects in return for those veterans.
As July winds to a close, the trade deadline approaches and decision time is here for every team.
