Bo Bichette tears up talking about Marcus Semien: 'He's meant a lot to me'
Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has his entire career ahead of him, but he couldn’t help getting emotional when contemplating his middle-infield teammate.
Marcus Semien had a career year and is once again a candidate for the AL MVP title. With six more years in the majors than the 23-year-old, he clearly provided enough lessons through their season together for Bichette to understand immediately how special it was once it was over.

Through a couple of muffled tears, Bichette says that Semien “meant everything” to him. The 31-year-old infielder is set to hit free agency this winter and with no confirmed destination, there appears to be concern from inside the clubhouse of his potential departure.
Although Semien certainly isn’t closing any doors quite yet.

In Bichette’s first full season, he was able to tie for the 16th highest WAR among all MLB players, according to Baseball Reference. Only Semien, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and ace Robbie Ray were able to contribute more to the 2021 Blue Jays. Pretty good for someone that appeared in only 75 big-league games before this year.
If that was even partly due to Semien’s influence, then maybe Toronto should look deep within itself at ponying up the cash to keep one of the best players in baseball — and clearly an A-plus clubhouse guy and mentor — on its roster.
It’s going to no doubt be a storyline that weaves through the Blue Jays' winter.
