MLB announces full field for the 2024 Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field

The full field has been announced for the 2024 Home Run Derby with a mix of first-time and returning competitors including a two-time winner.

Here are the eight competitors who will be vying to win one of baseball world’s favorite events.

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson

The first player to sign up to compete, the 2023 MLB rookie of the year will be making his home run derby debut. Henderson is also a first-time all-star this season and on pace to crush his rookie home run total of 28 with 27 already this season before the all-star break.

2024 stats: .292 with 27 home runs and 61 RBIs

Career home runs: 59

Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis García

Appearing in his second consecutive Home Run Derby the Texas Rangers fan favorite will be looking to get out of the first round this time around. García has struggled this season putting up the lowest batting average of his career after having a career year in 2023.

García joins former Ranger Alex Rodriguez as the only players in franchise history to participate in more than one derby.

2024 stats: .215 with 17 home runs and 45 RBIs.

Career home runs: 114

New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso

Alonso will be looking for a historic third victory in the Home Run Derby which would tie him with baseball Hall of Fame Ken Griffey Jr. for the most in league history. An all-star for the third consecutive season, Alonso remains one of the game’s best first basemen.

2024 stats: .240 with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs

Career home runs: 210

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm

Another first-time participant, Bohm is not traditionally known as a power hitter. Bohm’s highest home runs in a single season was 20 last season. Bohm is in the midst of a breakout season earning his first-all-star selection while owning the National League’s second-highest RBI total.

2024 stats: .292 with 11 home runs and 73 RBIs

Career home runs: 55

Atlanta Braves outfielder Marcell Ozuna

Ozuna owns the NL’s highest RBI total and is making his first all-star appearance since 2017 and his first-ever Home Run Derby appearance. Ozuna is having one of his best seasons behind the plate with him posting the third-highest batting average of his career.

2024 stats: .296 with 24 home runs and 75 RBIs

Career home runs: 260

Kansas City shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.

A Texas native who attended Colleyville Heritage High School Witt Jr. has burst onto the big league scene in his first three seasons placing seventh in MVP voting in 2023. Witt Jr. will also be in his first all-star game and Home Run Derby. Witt Jr. also has a Texas Rangers lineage through his father Bobby Witt Sr., who played 11 years for the Texas Rangers.

2024 stats: .325 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs

Career home runs: 65

Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez

Ramírez is playing in his sixth career all-star game and his second career home run derby. The Guardians third baseman has been one of the big league’s best over the past four seasons with four top-ten MVP finishes and two Silver Sluggers.

2024 stats: .275 with 23 home runs and 77 RBIs

Career home runs: 239

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernández

The last player to be announced, Hernández petitioned to be in the Home Run Derby. Hernández earned his second all-star selection in the last four years and with 19 home runs at the all-star break could surpass his career best of 32 set in 2021.

2024 stats: .257 with 19 home runs and 60 RBIs

Career home runs: 178

The 2024 Home Run Derby begins at 7 p.m. on July 15 at Globe Life Field and will air on ESPN.
