This missed game-winning attempt was Nikola Jokic's only shot vs. Grizzlies

Nikola Jokic has a cult following.

The Nuggets center tucked away in the Mountain Time Zone doesn’t get enough pub for his remarkable skill set that’s helped lead Denver to a scorching start this season.

A big man with a guard’s touch, Jokic can be counted on to routinely fill up the box score.

Jokic has had better nights

Wednesday night was not one of those nights.

The 9-1 Nuggets went on the road to play the grind-it-out Memphis Grizzlies. And grind it out the Grizzlies did, with a focus on shutting down Jokic.

Jokic did not attempt a single field goal until this 3-point heave in the final seconds to try to win the game.

Jokic did manage to score

He missed, and the Nuggets lost, 89-87. Jokic finished the night with four points, all at the foul line of course, to go with seven rebounds, four assists and six turnovers.

Coming into the night, he was averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and one block while shooting 52 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point distance.

It’s safe to say there will be better nights ahead for the Nuggets big man.

But the Grizzlies should take pride in frustrating Jokic into one of the early season’s most bizarre stat lines.
