Here’s a minute-by-minute timeline of Chiefs and Royals victories on Monday
Sports fans in Kansas City already knew Monday was going to be a special day with the Royals playing the Yankees in the postseason and the Chiefs facing the Saints on “Monday Night Football.”
It ended up being a great and memorable day for those KC supporters.
The Royals beat the Yankees 4-2 in Game 2 at Yankee Stadium and evened the American League Division Series at 1-1. And the Chiefs defeated the Saints 26-13 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium and improved their record to 5-0.
Many fans watched both games at the same time, although there was an issue with the broadcast audio on KMBC (Ch. 9). Here is a minute-by-minute breakdown of the games.
6:38 p.m.: Yankees starter Carlos Rodón’s first pitch is fouled off by Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia to open Game 2 of the American League Division Series.
6:41 p.m.: Rodón strikes out the side in the top of the first inning.
6:46 p.m.: Gleyber Torres walks to open the game for the Yankees, but New York doesn’t score.
6:58 p.m.: Royals second baseman Michael Massey picks up the game’s first hit: a single to right field.
7:06 p.m.: Anthony Volpe singles to left for the Yankees’ first hit.
7:15 p.m.: Harrison Butker’s kickoff is a touchback as Saints-Chiefs game begins.
7:20 p.m.: KC safety Bryan Cook intercepts a Derek Carr pass to end Saints’ first drive.

8:42 p.m.: Butker makes a 28-yard field goal, extending Chiefs advantage to 16-7.
8:43 p.m.: Halftime of the Chiefs-Saints game.
9:04 p.m.: Harrison Butker’s 51-yard field-goal attempt hits the right upright.
