Minnesota releases throwback uniforms for 2023 NFL season: A look at 'The Vikings Classic'

The Minnesota Vikings are bringing back a blast from the past by donning throwback uniforms to start the 2023 season.

During a virtual season-ticket member event on Tuesday, the team unveiled a new uniform called "The Vikings Classic." The uniform draws inspiration from the team's threads in the 1960s and 70s – to an era when Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton was running the offense and the menacing "Purple People Eaters" ruled the defensive line.

"The throwback pays homage to the team's earlier voyages with a deeper purple and larger, gold-trimmed numbers than the modern jersey, as well as retro sleeve stripes," the Vikings said in the announcement.

The uniforms also have slight helmet changes, with a throwback gray facemask and vintage horn decal.
