Millwall duo Danny McNamara and Ryan Leonard both face lengthy spells on the sidelines after picking up significant injuries in Tuesday's 2-2 draw with Cardiff City.

Defender McNamara, 26, will undergo surgery for a serious knee injury with no return date set for the former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international.

McNamara was introduced as a second-half substitute in place of the injured Leonard against Cardiff but was forced off four minutes later after twisting his left leg.

The extent of Leonard's calf injury is not yet known, with the 32-year-old due to have further scans.

Primarily a midfielder, Leonard has been a valuable and versatile player for current boss Alex Neil and his predecessor Neil Harris this season, plugging injury gaps at right-back, centre-back and right wing-back at various times.

He has played in all but one of the Lions' matches in all competitions this season, while Millwall academy graduate McNamara has made 15 appearances for the club this term.

"No specific timescale is being placed upon his [McNamara's] return to action at this stage," the club said in a statement on their website.

"Following surgery, Danny will begin a rehabilitation programme with the club's medical team to assist his recovery.

"Initial scans have revealed Ryan has suffered a significant calf injury and will require further scans to determine his rehabilitation steps."
